Friends of Myakka River |
With over 37,000 acres of stunning protected Wild Florida landscapes, waterscapes, flora and fauna, Myakka River State Park, one of Florida’s largest and oldest State Parks, is a beloved local gem which serves as critical habitat for many state threatened plant and wildlife species.
As a Citizen Support Organization, Friends of Myakka River, founded in 1993 by Dr. Mary Jelks, partners with park management to conserve the park’s delicate ecosystems and support park infrastructure by funding capital projects, as well as important resource management goals.
And by sharing Myakka’s Magic through in-person programming, social media and press, we’re augmenting the park's environmental education and outreach impact, allowing more individuals to personally experience Myakka and understand the importance of ongoing conservation efforts.
Together, we’re helping protect this special and environmentally critical place to the benefit of future generations, and our own
